For the third year in a row I visit the Festival of Lights in Berlin. This year’s theme was creating tomorrow, supporting the climate pledge, so there were plenty of images of nature and renewable energy. The main three places displayed man, nature and technology on the Brandenburg Gate, Bebelsplatz and the TV tower. All up there were about 70 locations showing light installations varying from lit up trees and still images to video mapping. The main difference with last year was that it felt like COVID was just a figment of our imagination. It was incredibly busy, with masses of people moving along Unter den Linden. Tourists and Berliners alike had come out to see the show, even on the colder and wetter days. Bebelsplatz was one of the crowded places along the main route through Mitte. Visiting the festival of lights 2020 Despite the corona virus Berlin held the 16th edition of the Festival of Lights. Throughout the city you can find light installations, some static and some with moving images and music. Since most of them are located around Mitte I decided to go for a walk there on a Sunday night. It was a warm September evening and many people were still out and about. Even though it was busy, there was plenty of space to move around. Last year there were some light shows, meaning you had to stand in front of a building, waiting for it to start and could then enjoy the show for a couple of minutes. Time flies. It’s true. Suddenly I’ve entered 2015. I didn’t even realise it. The new year comes with new chances, change, more adventure, endless possibilities and lots of choices. But that’s all in the future. Today, the first of January, was the same as yesterday. I rode my bike to work, envied all the people going on holiday, and rode my bike back home. Not every day of the last year was like that though… The year started in Adelaide, where I was applying for a visa for New Zealand. My days were filled with going to the gym, sitting around and waiting for work to start in the evenings. I only had a few hours work at night, but managed to save some money for the next adventure. In February the Fringe festival started and with that some more exciting times. Flyering for a comedian I met some awesome people…
