A friendly man helped me and my friend to tickets to Dalkey. From Dublin it’s an easy train ride away. It was quiet on the train on this New Year’s day. In Dalkey we saw some shops, obviously closed, with a retro look. I saw them on a photo in the travel guide. I thought this little town would be a shopping paradise, but it turns out that all the shops that were there were on that one photo. So we continued to Dalkey Castle, or the remnants of it. It wasn’t very big, but a pretty sight. New Year’s day is the perfect day for a walk and we made our way through the town just like the locals did. Trinity College in Dublin was founded by the protestants as a universty for men in 1592. Later, also women and Catholics were allowed. The school has been around for a while, and so has its book full of rules. Of course it has been amended over the years, but apparently some ancient rules and regulations still apply. An example: until the 90s it was allowed to shoot a Catholic with a crossbow. Ok, the police might come to arrest you, but at least you wouldn’t be expelled. Odd regulations at Trinity college Some students have made finding the odd rules an art form. One day, a student came to class on a horse and dressed in full armor, sword and all.
