I don’t even know what day it is. Day 40-something, day 50-something of isolation and social distancing? The last time I worked was over a month ago! A month has flown by and the end is not yet in sight. Only 7 weeks ago I was in the French Alps, flying down the ski slopes. I had so much travelling ahead of me. Bulgaria and Iceland were already scheduled. And then things turned around…
Keeping active and adventurous in Corona times
For someone who is on the move a lot, used to the freedom of going wherever she wants to go, whenever she wants to go, corona has brought a major challenge. So, what is there to do for a restless adventurer? Is all hope lost? No. Is Netflix the only way of escapism? No. Even in these days there is plenty to do.
The corona-adventure list
- Explore your own backyard
- Learn a new language
- Work on your travel memories or blog
- Cook things from your favorite countries
- Learn something foreign, like a dance, origami, sport or craft
- Find things to do in your own country
- Find and fix your gear
- Support your local businesses
- Take photos of your city without tourist
- Reconnect with your travel friends
- Find a mooq of your choice and learn something that will help when you hit the road again
- Watch travel documentaries and read travel books
- Dream big! Work on your post-corona plans
Scratch skydiving or that new tattoo you wanted. For the next few months the bucket list has changed a bit. But while many of us have been cursed with no job and perhaps no income, we’ve also been blessed with time. And what better way to spend it than preparing for your next adventure and going out on small adventures.
Rules are different everywhere, but here in Berlin we’re still allowed to go outside for walks. So I’ve ordered the guide book for the “66 Lakes”-walk that takes you around Berlin in 17 stages. It’s the perfect opportunity to stay fit, be adventurous and explore the nature around my new home base! Travel may be restricted, but have you seen everything around your own region?
It’s highly likely that the first things that’s opening up is travel to other states within Germany. So I’m also looking up other things I can do around the country so that I’m ready when we can travel locally again. And one of my dreams has been to walk the Camino Frances. I know there is a small chance that it will still open this year, but if it does, I’m going to grab it. So I’m learning Spanish again, read up on packing lists and watch documentaries about people who’ve done it.
I’ve also finished my photo albums from my last adventures and I’m learning to draw, a hobby I can take wherever I go. I joined an online Samba course, because now I’ve actually got a chance to do it. The current situation has brought about a lot of changes and in general I’m not super stoked about our “new normal”. But I am grateful for the time I’ve been given. It’s sparked a new sense of adventure and creativity in me, that I hope I can take along when the world opens up again.
