Behold Hofburg palace in Vienna, winter residence of the famous Habsburg family. The statue in front of what is now used as the library, is of Frenchman Prince Eugene of Savoy. This general in the military had sworn loyalty to the Habsburgs. The statue is placed on the Heldenplatz, or Hero Square, so this might indicate how people saw him and how important he was for the history of Austria. Besides war, he was also interested in art. I guess the position of the statue makes sense, even now.
I particularly like the position of this statue. From the front it is a nice view towards the library and palace. Seen from the back, it’s like the statue watches all over Vienna. Still keeping guard.
Got into the statues? Get over to Where’s my Backpack for a whole lot more of them!
