It’s been a looooong winter. And it doesn’t seem to end. I look outside the window and see dark clouds looming in the sky. Summer is absolutely fantastic in Berlin, but somehow Mother Nature decided to make us wait. As if the ongoing lockdown isn’t enough…
But occasionally she surprises us with a nice day. One weekend, after a Friday afternoon snow shower, Sunday hit us with 27 degrees Celsius. What an unexpected surprise! One of only 2 nice days before the forecast changed to dark clouds and rain drops. So out and about we went. All of us. The whole city!
It happens to be the perfect timing to see the cherry blossoms. Berlin has several places with cherry trees, but the lane at the edge of Berlin, in Teltow, is by far the most popular. The lane stretches out for about 1,5 km in the area where the Berlin Wall separated Brandenburg from West-Berlin.
The S25 takes you very close, to the Lichterfelde Süd station. From there you can walk up and down between the blooming trees. It was incredibly busy, people on picnic blankets under every tree. But it didn’t matter. It was beautiful, a sea of pink. We followed the lane till the end, turned around, went under the train tracks and continued.
At the edge of the fields, we followed a small forest track until the hilltop Trümmerberg Lichterfelde, from where we looked for the TV-tower on the horizon, which was hidden behind some trees. We then meandered back to the Sbahn station of Osdorfer Straße, through a playfully designed neighborhood.
A small taste of summer. It just leaves me craving more…
The most beautiful places are sometimes close to home
What kind of incredible magic that scene inside…
